Sony Xperia XZ2 Review – A Well-Equipped Smartphone Overshadowed By Better Choices On The Market

Sony redesigned its Xperia line in quite some time with the release of the Xperia XZ2, and it did come with a lot of good things to talk about. From that curved glass rear to the big Full HD resolution display, we liked everything about this phone. While there are better options available on the market today, Sony Xperia XZ2 is still a good smartphone to own if you want a feature-rich handset at a fraction of the price. Let’s have a detailed Sony Xperia XZ2 Review.

Design

The phone received a relatively major redesign compared to its previous generations, with the sides and the rear getting more curved to allow for easy handling. The camera, sensors, and flash move to the center as they are stacked in a vertical column at its rear.

A metal frame runs around its circumference to give it a more premium feel as well as a strong framework. The frontal bezels are also not as big as in the previous generations, and the device feels cleaner and more modern.

In Sony Xperia XZ2, the fingerprint scanner is located in the vertical stack at the back, but some might find it a bit too low down at the phone’s rear. On the right side of the device, you can find the power/lock key and the volume rocker is placed just above it, while there’s a dedicated camera button below it.

On the top, you can find the SIM tray and the USB-C port goes at the bottom. The headphone jack is not there in this phone, instead, the manufacturer includes an adaptor in the package to let users plug in their wired headphones using the USB-C port.

Display

The Sony Xperia XZ2 features a 5.7” Full HD display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. As a result, you get a wider display when using the device in landscape orientation. The screen also goes up to HDR from standard-definition, giving you a better color range with ‘blacker blacks’ to make your visual experience more realistic.

Generally, the display is pretty bright and clear, but you’ll find a massive quality difference when comparing it with the QHD displays with AMOLED panels on the competing devices.

Camera

You get a 19MP rear camera that captures some wonderful photos in fully lit settings. Even the low-light shots are pretty decent and have a lot of detail on offer. However, due to the aggressive image processing of this device, some details might be lost when taking photos in a setting where lighting is suboptimal.

It features a 5MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture. The photos lack details, obviously, but you get sharp images with a decent dynamic range. The camera lacks autofocus too.

Performance

Sony Xperia XZ2 comes power-packed with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and also houses 4GB of RAM to run smoothly enough no matter what apps you want to use. The Adreno 630 GPU packed inside is also 30% more powerful compared to the older Adreno 540 that featured in the older Snapdragon 835. Overall, the performance may not be as good as the competing devices, but it is still pretty decent.

Battery Life

The handset packs a 3180mAh battery inside that can easily last through the day of moderate-to-high usage.

While Sony Xperia XZ2 may not be the best device on the market today, it is still something that gives you good value for your buck. Ready to order your new Sony Xperia XZ2? Start looking for the best deals at Bulk Mobiles now!
