When LG first introduced its V50 ThinQ handset, it was among the first few devices to offer 5G connectivity. It’s still a solid device even today and features some flagship-level specs and a wonderful display. Luxury comes at a price, though, and that’s exactly the case with LG V50 ThinQ. Design
The LG V50 looks pretty similar in design to the older V30 and V40 models, and you can easily mistake it for the other devices. LG maintained the design aesthetic of the V-series for this device. The 6.4” OLED display comes with minimal bezels. There’s also a small notch on the display to accommodate the cameras and speaker.
On the back, you get an all-glass case that features a horizontal camera array. On top of the camera stack, you’ll find a small 5G logo in yellow, and it glows when you use the phone. Right below the camera array, you’ll find a fingerprint sensor that may respond quickly but is not easily reachable for those with small hands. The phone is bare at the top, and you’ll find a headphone jack, speaker, and USB-C charging port at the bottom. On the left, there’s a convenience button for launching Google Assistant alongside the volume buttons. The power button is on the right.
The phone is built sturdy, with Gorilla Glass 5 protection at the front and Gorilla Glass 6 protecting the back.
Display
The handset comes equipped with an OLED display with 3120 x 1330 resolution and 538ppi pixel density. Overall, it’s an excellent display with great color accuracy, but it may feel slightly cool. However, you can customize screen temperature from the settings menu and make it warmer if you prefer it that way. It is bright enough at 335 nits brightness, but it can give you a hard time seeing the screen in direct sunlight.
Camera
On its back, you can find a 12mp standard camera, a 16mp wide-angle lens, and a 12mp telephoto shooter. Generally, the phone captures bright and vibrant shots, but the low-light performance may not be up to the mark. You can use the device for taking portrait mode video, but it may not be as smooth as you’d want.
The front camera features an 8mp standard shooter and a 5mp wide-angle lens. It gives more natural-looking results compared to other competing devices, but may not be as sharp in the details.
Performance
The handset comes with a Snapdragon 855 chip powering its core. It does pretty well on the Benchmark tests and is very much on par with the competing devices. When it comes to real-world usage, it feels quite snappy at launching apps and doesn’t lag at all.
Battery Life
The V50 comes with a 4000mAh battery that easily lasts through a workday of heavy usage. It can last for more than 17 hours of video playback on Airplane mode. That’s certainly impressive!
