Huawei introduced the P10 phone as a flagship device with minor tweaks to the P9 experience. It was the company’s effort to compete with the big names on the market like Samsung and Apple. The handset is comfortable to hold and features a terrific camera. The all-metal body with highly polished edges and cool micro-etched finish on its back make the phone look great. Let’s take a more detailed look into what the P10 has on offer in this Huawei P10 review.
Design
From the looks of it, the phone is pretty close to the iPhone 6S. Even though it resembles Apple’s device, the P10 still has much of its design language inspired by the older Huawei P9. Its rounded corners make it a bit more comfortable to hold, though. The handset boasts a solid build thanks to its metal exterior. The front is protected with Gorilla Glass 5 and offers decent scratch resistance.
The fingerprint scanner has been moved to the front too, and Huawei has built it directly into the front glass without any seam lines. The right edge of the device is home to an indented power button that feels different from the volume rocker, and you can easily distinguish between the two. Along its bottom edge sit the USB-C port, a single speaker driver, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Display
The display on the P10 is a Full HD screen, very much similar to the one featured in the Huawei P9. It’s a 5.1” IPS-Neo display panel that offers better blacks than what we often see on IPS screens. The viewing angles have been improved too. Furthermore, you get to experience clean whites with balanced colors. The 432ppi pixel density of the display panel means everything looks pretty sharp, despite that it’s not a QHD screen. It’s a super-bright display that works great in strong sunlight.
Cameras
Cameras are the biggest selling point of the Huawei P10 apart from its design. The phone has a dual-camera setup featuring a 12 mega-pixel color sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and a 20 mega-pixel monochrome lens with an f/1.8 aperture. You get OIS to capture sharper pictures, while the major improvement is the inclusion of a wider and faster maximum aperture, i.e., f/1.8.
The phone uses both sensors to capture photos and then combines the images to enhance the contrast and detail in the colored image using the one from the black and white sensor.
The front camera is an 8MP shooter, and it gives some beautiful shots. You get Portrait mode with the front camera too.
Overall, the cameras offer impressive photography capabilities and capture a decent amount of light and detail. You can expect the performance to drop a little in low light, though.
Performance
The Huawei P10 features the Kirin 960 chipset, the same as the Huawei Mate 9. Here, it is paired with 4GB of RAM and a Mali G71 MP8 GPU to put it on par with other competing devices.
The combo easily runs most of the latest games and apps, leaving you satisfied with its performance. The apps don’t crash, and everything loads quickly. Everyday performance is great, and you don’t experience any lags.
Battery Life
The handset is powered by a 3200mAh battery, offering an improved battery life in comparison to older Huawei phones. It’s still not great, however. Expect the battery to run out of juice by the end of the day when you push it hard. It will last slightly longer on days of lighter use.
