Sony Xperia Z5 Review – A Flagship With Some Exciting High-End Features On Offer

Known for a lot of top tech, Sony Xperia Z5 is a flagship that came with some exciting high-end features. But did it make it to the top? Well, everyone would have their own explanation for that depending on what matters for them the most. Still, it’s a promising device that offers a full HD display, massive power, and a top-of-the-line 23-mp camera. Getting excited? Read through our Sony Xperia Z5 review and get the real feel of Sony’s flagship.

Design

When you look at it, the Xperia Z5 looks similar to the older Z3 and Z2 models. You get the feel of the same family for sure with its glass back and front, a metal edge, and little Sony branding. A few changes are there to notice too as it comes with a frosted glass panel on the rear. Sony has made its metal edges flat to give it a more blocky feel.

The handset is 7.3mm thick with the power button going to the side. This time it’s a long and flat button to replace Sony’s iconic sticking-out dimple button design. It also serves as the fingerprint sensor – the first to feature on a Sony smartphone.

Display

Sony Xperia Z5 comes with a 5.2” display – the same as the one featured in the older Xperia Z3. The full HD display offers exactly the same pixel density too. Overall, it’s pretty sharp and crisp to give you clear images and fine text. The resolution, however, could have been a bit higher to meet that of the competing LG G4 and Galaxy S6 devices.

Camera

The camera is the real show-stopper for the Z5 as it comes with a 23-mp camera that the manufacturer claims to be the best in the world when it comes to smartphone cameras. Besides the higher resolution, the autofocus is the key highlight of this camera. It comes with some serious improvements from the older models and works within just 0.03 seconds.

Remember here that you’ll need to manually enable the camera’s higher resolution from the settings because, otherwise, it will capture only 8-mp stills.

The selfie camera is a 5.1-mp shooter. It’s the same as the one in the older model. You can record 1080p video using this camera, and it works great for video calls too.

Performance

Xperia Z5 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor chip topped with 3GB of RAM. It is a quad-core Cortex-A53 clocking at 1.5 GHz combined with a quad-core Cortex A57 clocking at 2 GHz. Add to the mix an Adreno 430 GPU, and you can expect superb performance overall. While it’s a powerful chip, previously it was reported to have overheating issues. According to the manufacturer, they have made slight upgrades to the chip used in Z5, but you can still expect some overheating causing you to force close different apps.

Battery Life

Xperia Z5 packs a 2900mAh battery that may be the biggest pain for the users. It’s shrunk from 3100mAh in the older Z3 and may not even last through a full day of use.

Overall a good choice, Sony Xperia Z5 does lag behind in some areas. But if it checks all the boxes for you, just go for it. Looking for the best deals on the market? Check out Bulk Mobiles UK and grab a bargain.
