Samsung Galaxy S6 Review – A Fast, Well-Built Samsung Phone That Came With A Better Design

Updated: Nov 30, 2022

Samsung Galaxy S6 came back in 2015 and was well-received by the masses as the best smartphone to hit the market that year. It was Samsung’s effort to shift focus and move to an improved design outlook. The handset made headlines for being the look-alike of the iPhone 6, but it did offer a handful of great features that made it stand out among the Android phones. A wonderful screen, an improved fingerprint scanner, and fast- and wireless-charging options were some of the key attractions of this handset. Let’s have a detailed look into what else the phone offers in our Samsung Galaxy S6 review.

Design

Samsung decided to go bold with the design of its Galaxy S6 phones, replacing the old plastic covering with glass surfaces. The metal trim bezel added to its look and made for a lively appearance. The phone is skinnier, narrower, and lighter in weight than its predecessor. On the front, it resembles the Galaxy S4, featuring a bland and rounded fascia and that lozenge home button.

On the rear side, it may not look too eye-catching because of that big protruding camera. There’s also a flash beside the camera bump. Overall, the design looks good, with the volume buttons placed on the left and the power button perfectly positioned on the right. The bottom of the device is home to a microUSB 2.0 port, microphone, internal speaker, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The top edge hosts the noise-canceling mic and the IR blaster.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy S6 features a 5.1” Super AMOLED screen that gives you clear and crisp whites with pure blacks to make for a truly brilliant experience. You get 1440 x 2560 resolution and a 577ppi pixel density.

The screen offers punchier colors, and the photos and videos look fantastic. Its particularly strong outdoor visibility makes it one of the sharpest displays around.

Cameras

The main camera remains one of the key selling points of this handset. It’s a 16mp snapper with an f/1.9 aperture, making it just perfect for capturing scenes with a shallow depth of field and low light. The instant shutter speed, rich colors, and quick and accurate auto-focus make for a perfect shooting experience. Furthermore, the camera has OIS that helps capture parties and nightscapes perfectly, even when not using the flash.

It also supports 4K video shooting, but the default setting is full-HD. You also get fast- and slow-motion video modes.

The selfie camera is a 5mp shooter, and it’s not bad either. Besides all the basic features, it offers HDR, effects, beauty mode, voice capture, heart-rate sensor, and 1080p video recording capabilities. To top it all, there’s a ‘wide selfie’ mode as well to ensure you can get more of your friends in the selfie frames.

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is powered by the Exynos 7420 octa-core processor. It’s a 64-bit, 14nm chip that features 4x2.1 GHz Cortex A-57 cores and 4x1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 cores. It also comes integrated with a Mali-T760 GPU and 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM to make for a snappier user experience. You can choose from 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage options as well.

Overall performance is snappy, and the phone only lags when you try to swipe in the Flipboard pane or use its multi-tasking screen. Otherwise, it’s pretty fluid, and everything opens instantly.

Battery Life

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is not up to the mark when it comes to battery life. Probably, that’s the only real issue with this phone. It features a 2550mAh cell that doesn’t give you as much juice as you’d like. In fact, it can get quite frustrating at times. On most days, you’ll need to charge your phone by evening.

While the battery life is the only major concern with Samsung Galaxy S6, the handset gives you a lot to fall for. Its decent looks, reasonable camera, and vivid display will make for a great user experience. If you’re not looking for those fancy curved edges, it’s a good phone to have.
