OnePlus 3T Review – A Top-End Device With Budget In Mind

OnePlus had released the 3T handset as a new variant of the OnePlus 3 only after a few months of the release of the latter. The new OnePlus 3T offered the same design, display, RAM, fingerprint scanner, and rear camera, but it also got rid of some major flaws of the OnePlus 3. So, the upgrade to the OnePlus 3T meant slicker performance, a punchier selfie camera, improved battery life, and a bit higher price tag. Let’s have a complete OnePlus 3T review and find out what makes this device a top-end option.

Design

The OnePlus 3T comes with a premium metal unibody design, and it feels great. Nothing changed here from the OnePlus 3, and the new variant also offers an aluminum build with beveled sides and a curved back. In fact, the two phones are identical in terms of design.

On the front, it’s a standard black slab with a Gorilla Glass 4 coating. The key highlight here is the indented fingerprint scanner that also serves as the home button and sits nicely below the display. On the sides of the fingerprint scanner, there are touch-sensitive navigation keys that only become visible when you tap on the screen.

The notification slider and volume rocker are placed on the left side. The former can be set to silent, all notifications, and priority notifications, allowing users to change the settings quickly without having to wake the screen.

On the right side of the phone, you can have a power/lock key, sitting right under the dual-SIM tray. Even though you can use two SIMs on this handset, it lacks the option to expand storage using a microSD card. The top edge remains empty, while you can find a speaker grille, a headphone jack, and a USB-C port at the bottom.

Display

The phone sports a 5.5” full HD AMOLED display that’s great for just about everything. Before the launch of this handset, a few reports suggested that the manufacturer will drop the AMOLED screen. Fortunately, they didn’t, but they didn’t go for the 2K resolution either and kept it to 1080p. The display still seems pretty crisp and vibrant, however.

Camera

The manufacturer came up with a few subtle improvements as the shots from the 16MP rear shooter get better detailing and noise suppression now. The camera performs well enough, even in lowlight settings.

The front camera is also a 16MP snapper, and it gives you more natural-looking and detailed selfies. Even in tough lighting conditions, this camera won’t disappoint.

Performance

Even though it’s a budget device, the OnePlus 3T gives you near-flagship performance. Powered by a Snapdragon 821 chipset, this phone is somewhat more powerful when compared to its predecessor. It is snappy and won’t lag even for the most demanding users.

Battery Life

The OnePlus 3T packs a 3400mAh battery, giving you some more juice compared to the older OnePlus 3. And, you’ll feel that when using the device. It will comfortably take you through the day of regular use.
